Where it works
Tongue-and-groove is the classic finish for covered porches and patios in Central Texas. It also works for exterior soffits, interior vaulted ceilings, accent walls and bedroom or living room ceilings.
Finish before install
Wood boards expand and contract with humidity. If they are only finished on the face, a thin line of raw wood shows at the joints when they shrink in dry months. Where the product calls for it, we stain or prime boards on all sides before installation.
Planning the ceiling
Board direction, starting line, lights, fans, speakers and beam wraps are planned before the first board goes up so cutouts land cleanly. Electrical work for new fixtures is handled by a licensed electrician.

Questions about tongue & groove
Stain or paint?
Stained pine or cedar gives a warm, natural porch ceiling. Painted boards give a clean, traditional look. We can sample both.
Can you install over an existing ceiling?
Often, yes, if the existing ceiling is sound and flat. We check framing and attachment during the walk-through.
